PETA Wants The Zac Brown Band To Change Their Frying Ways
2/8/2010
The Zac Brown Band's Grammy Awards performance with Leon Russell is now available for download at iTunes. The two acts teamed up for a medley of "America the Beautiful," Leon's "Dixie Lullaby" and the Zac Brown Band hit "Chicken Fried."
And speaking of "Chicken Fried," PETA wants the band to change their frying ways. It seems the animal rights organization just discovered the song when the band performed it on the Grammy Awards, and they're suggesting Zac and company change the title to "Tofu Fried" instead. On the PETA blog, writer Karin Bennett points out that Zac Brown Band sings about freedom in the lyrics of "Chicken Fried," and she's hoping the group will extend that same freedom to animals living on "filthy, crowded factory farms."
PETA has also offered to partner with Zac Brown Band at their shows for a vegan "eat and greet," where fans come and share a meal with the band. In addition, PETA has sent the band a basket of faux meats. The Zac Brown Band apparently hasn't responded to PETA just yet.
